Many people often ask themselves, ‘how can I contribute?’ The generosity of giving is not always limited to finances or gifts that come in packages.
Good friend of the Rescue Mission, Bob Harrison, invited our students from the Village of Hope to come out for Public Train rides at Orange County Model Engineers, where he is a member. This is a fun example of how giving does not fit in ‘the box.’
What a fun gift to share; the unique experience and passion of one of our donors.
A group of 12 children and their parents attended the event and had a wonderful time! From the look of the photos, it appears the train rides were a lot of fun for the adults as well.

Thank you to Bob and OCME for providing such a special and unique opportunity for the children of the Village of Hope.

Orange County Model Engineers:
OCME is a non-profit organization that operates a 7 1/2″ gauge railroad at Fairview Park in Costa Mesa, California.   Officially known as, Mackerel Flats and Goat Hill Junction Railroad, the club was founded in 1988 by a group of local railroad buffs.   Currently there is over 5 miles of actual track winding through the park.

Public ride days are the highlight for the club. They are conducted on the third Saturday and following Sunday of each month from 10:00 am until 3:30 pm. In 2006 we gave rides to over 30,000 people. The club has a variety of engines and riding cars. Trains on public ride days are made up of 4 to 6 bench cars that seat 5 to 6 adults and children.
